Hair Extensions Allegan MI

Hair extensions from our Allegan hair salon are a fabulous way to add volume, length and style to your hair.   Depending upon your preference, hair extensions can blend with your natural hair color or they can contrast with the color of your hair for exceptional highlights without the need for a chemical hair color service.   Different lengths, colors, and textures are available so that you can achieve a wide range of effects.   It is easier than ever to have those long glamorous tresses that are ever popular among super models and celebrities.
How do you take care of hair extensions so that they will look gorgeous long after your salon appointment?  Follow these tips from our salon in Allegan.

TIPS FOR SHAMPOO & CONDITIONING
•    If your hair will allow, it is best to shampoo hair extensions every other day instead of shampooing daily.
•    Before shampooing, use a wide tooth comb to gently and carefully remove tangles from your extensions.   Start at the ends and gently work your way up, brushing or combing in a downward motion.
•    Use a mild, gentle shampoo.  Be carefully when shampooing.   Shampoo with your head tilted backwards under the shower so that the water can run down the length of the extensions.  Avoid using vigorous rubbing or scrubbing motions.  When conditioning, avoid the scalp area and just condition the hair rather than the scalp.  When rinsing, be sure that all the shampoo and conditioner residues are washed out.
•    Leave in conditioners are great for hair extensions.  A leave in conditioner can be applied after shampooing.  Especially concentrate on the ends.

TIPS FOR DRYING
•    When shampooing at night, make sure hair is completely dry before going to bed.
•    It’s best to let extensions air dry when possible. If using a blow dryer, use a cool setting if your dryer has one.  Choose the lowest setting for air flow and hold the dryer so that the stream of air is directed in a downward pattern from the top of your head.  This will keep the extensions from tangling as you blow dry them.

TIPS FOR STYLING
•    If you use hair spray or other styling products, try to avoid those containing alcohol. (Alcohol can be very drying to the hair.)   Limit styling products such as hair sprays, mousse and gel if possible as they can make the hair dry and can cause tangling.  Styling products can also create build up on the hair and it is recommended that a deep cleansing or chelating shampoo be used once or twice a month to remove build-up and residue.
•    Although hair extensions are made from real human hair, they do not receive nutrients from the scalp like your own hair. Heat can be the enemy of  hair extensions. The more you use on it, the shorter the life span of your hair.   If possible, limit the use of blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons as well as heat rollers.  If you want to curl your hair, try steam rollers instead of curling irons.
•    For flat irons, use an ionic ceramic iron if possible.  It is best to use a flat iron that has a temperature gauge.  Test a section of your hair and set the temperature gauge at the lowest setting that will still provide good straightening results.  Before you start, give your hair a good brush.  Section your hair and spray each section with a thermal protection spray before you use the flat iron.  Clamp the iron on your hair, hold the hair near the point of attachment, and with one single firm slow stroke move it down your hair.

WHEN YOU SLEEP
•    When you sleep, there are several methods that you can use to keep your hair extensions from tangling.  Extensions can be braided or pulled into a soft Scrunchie so that they will stay nice and neat while you sleep.  Never go to bed with your hair damp.  You can also wrap your hair with a satin scarf or use a satin sleep cap or a satin pillow case to prevent friction.
